PRIVATE RESIDENTAL REEF

THE BRIEF:
To design and build a large show piece aquarium for use as a wall divider
Between the lobby and living area.
The aquarium requirements: A full reef with fish, coral, star-fish and plants.
Because of the location, the tank must operate silently with minimal noise and disturbance to the clients.
The interior will be viewed from all sides and as such must be visually pleasing.

THE SOLUTION

AQUARIUM DESIGN

The aquarium itself: 335 gallons in size, made from high grade optically clear toughened and laminated glass. To provide the necessary strength needed for aquariums of this depth stainless steel collars were used on the upper and lower surfaces

ROCK AND DÉCOR

Under normal circumstances, the aquarium dimensions and the need to view it from all four sides would create quiet a challenge.
Traditionally loose rocks and boulders are placed together producing a pile of rock called the ’reef’.
This problem lent itself very well to Inlands innovative synthetic rock sculpting service.
The sculpted reef was designed in such a way as to be stable and robust even though the height was four times that of the base width.
The overall look was sketched out and produced in slot together sections allowing easy re-assembly within the aquarium.

The basic 5 piece structure.

The final completed reef.

The reef is constructed of only the highest quality components, built around a PVC coated marine grade stainless steel armature.
Once complete the structure was reassembled inside the finished aquarium.

FILTRATION

The brief stipulated minimal disturbance within the living area and silent operation if at all possible.
This was achieved by locating the life support system 60 feet, 20m away from the aquarium itself. By doing so the routine maintenance such as changing water, cleaning equipment and replacing filter components would take place well away clients bespoke interior and white carpets.
The dedicated filter room was situated on the outside of the premises, only small in size ( 5 foot by 6 ) this contained everything required to keep the aquarium at its best as well as numerous safety features such as the computer phone monitoring system.

MAINTENANCE ROUTINE:

The aquarium is serviced only once per week allowing for any cleaning, water changes and feeding to be done.
